Where are you from? From my Mother and Father! I was born in Meriden, Connecticut and joined the military (Army) 2 weeks out of high school. I was on active duty with the reserves and National Guard, and I retired in 2019 with 42 years of service.

How long have you been a part of JH Fire/EMS? For 20 years: I started in November of 2002.

What made you want to join? My wife said I should because it would be easier on my body and I agreed.

Did you have a background in emergency services at all? Just military basic first aid, IV training and such.

What is your current role in the department? Chief Electrical Inspector.

Can you talk me through your journey with the department over the years? I’ve been through 5 Chiefs, 4 Fire Marshals and 2 Chief Electrical Inspectors. I might be the longest standing member here at this time.

What are your future goals in the department? Set up for my replacement and retirement in less than 3 years.

What would you say is your favorite part of your job? Lots of learning and interacting with professionals, plus I see so many new technologies.

What about the most challenging part? Staying current with new codes and changes in our structure.

What advice would you give new recruits coming into the department? You have to want to be here.

What would you say is the most valuable trait for someone working in this field? Focus and flexibility.
